Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle' is a new and exciting breed with a pale green on contrasting dark green pattern on its leaves which is reminiscent of a turtle shell! Its leaves are fleshy, round and hairy and grow in a rosette-like fashion. It makes for an eye-catching, yet undemanding houseplant especially perfect for small spaces!

While other plants of this genus are grown for their gorgeous blooms, Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle' stands out for its unique leaves! However, as this is a brand new breed, no-one has seen it in flower yet. So, the blooms might be just as exciting as those of other Streptocarpus for all we know - why don't you find out for yourself?

Streptocarpus are native to Africa and Madagascar. These are found in the wild on rocky hillsides or cliffs, or on the ground or rock crevices. They are very resilient plants which also make them ideal house plants!

Streptocarpus do not like their leaves to get wet, because they are covered in small, transparent hair, which makes them so soft. Since it is hard to water it from the top without wetting the delicate, bushy leaves, it is best to bottom-water your plant and refrain from misting.

Streptocarpus 'Pretty Turtle' will thrive in a spot with bright, indirect light and can tolerate a  few hours of direct morning sun. It loves humidity, so it would be an ideal choice for a bathroom or kitchen.

Care Tips

Light: bright, indirect light, no direct sunlight

Water: keep the soil moist, but never soggy wet

Humidity: high but do not mist the plant as the plant doesn't like it and it can cause fungal infection

Soil: well-draining, likes to be pot-bound, helps the plant to bloom

Toxicity: Non-toxic to dogs, cats or people. Source -
